MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

Murfreesboro police are looking for the gunman who opened fire on a home wounding a 12-year-old boy.

The incident occurred around 3:20 p.m. in the 1100 block of Wingate Street.

According to police, the boy, who has yet to be identified, was grazed by a bullet while sitting on a couch inside the home when the shooting started.

Around 30 bullet holes where counted by police in the house and nearby.

The shooting left neighbors shaken.

"When we came home the whole road was blocked off and the cops were out everywhere," one neighbor said. "I also noticed they had a bunch of markings set down in the road showing bullet casings."

A number of children live in the area. One young neighbor said he saw the shooting. He said he was unsure if there was more than one person firing from a car in the road.

After the shooting, the young neighbor said the car sped out of the area.

Murfreesboro police have not released a description of the car or a description of any suspects.

"I can't imagine what anybody would have been going through if they would have been in the middle of it," the neighbor said. "I hope Murfreesboro police keep patrolling through here like they are now."

Another neighbor who has lived in the area for more than 40 years said this type of violent crime is becoming too common.

"There is a shooting over here all the time, just about," he said.

When asked if it frustrates him he said, "Yeah."

The boy grazed by the bullet was transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center for treatment and is expected to recover.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
