MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

The Middle Tennessee State University basketball team were told on national television that they're going to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 24 years.

The Blue Raiders watched from the Murfreesboro campus as it was announced they would take on Saint Mary's Gaels.

The two teams tip off Tuesday night in the First Four at 8:10 p.m. in Dayton, Ohio.

At stake is a No. 11 seed and a chance to take on No. 6 seed Memphis.

Some MTSU fans watched the announcement from the Boulevard Bar & Grill near campus.

"Everybody went crazy," said MTSU graduate Rick Dixon. "It's great for the team. They deserve it."

"I think it was obvious we dominated the Sun Belt," MTSU grad Chuck Harvill said. "We deserved to be in the tournament with 28 wins. No team has ever beat 28 Division One teams and not gotten in the tournament. So I think it was a no-brainer."

Players and coaches said the support from students, fans and the community as a whole has been overwhelming.

"So many tweets, text messages, people just walking up and talking about how long it's been since Middle Tennessee has been in the NCAA Tournament," said Senior Guard Bruce Massey, Jr.

"It's great for our fans," Coach Kermit Davis said. "And it's great for our student body."

This is MTSU's first trip to the big dance since 1989 and the seventh in program history.
