CADIZ, Ky. (AP) - A baby in western Kentucky is lucky to be alive.
Rescuers told WPSD-TV that they found baby Dakota in the backseat of his great-grandmother's car about eight hours after a crash that killed her.
Trigg County Rescue Chief Barry Fox said family members became concerned when 63-year-old Wendy Cain didn't return Thursday afternoon after running errands and called authorities. Fox said crews searched several roadways in the area before finding the vehicle hours later in a hard-to-see spot.
Investigators say they think Cain overcorrected and hit a tree before the vehicle came to rest below the road.
Fox said Dakota "just started smiling at everybody like he knew, he knew he'd been saved."
