A drive-by shooting occurred late Thursday afternoon in Macon County and the suspect is still at large, leading officials to close schools as a precaution.
The Director of Macon County Schools said that all schools will be closed Friday, March 15 because they want their teachers and students to be safe.
The safety is a concern due to a shooting that took place late Thursday afternoon near a Hometown Foods in Lafayette.
The grocery store is located across the street from Macon Christian Academy.
The victim, who has since been identified as Tommy Hillard, was reportedly sitting in a car in at a stop sign when he was shot.
He was taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Police are still in pursuit of the suspect.
The investigation is ongoing.
