Beech High School running back Jalen Hurd announced via Twitter that he would continue his football career at the University of Tennessee.
The junior from Hendersonville tweeted the announcement Thursday morning at 7:30.
The decision comes after spending several days with UT head coach Butch Jones and his family, The Tennessean reported.
"I got to spend about four or five hours each day with Coach Jones, meeting his family and getting to know him," Hurd told The Tennessean. "He is such a genuine person, and I feel like I've developed a good relationship with him and the coaching staff."
Hurd plans to graduate from Beech in December and enroll at Tennessee early.
Ranked as one of the top running backs and players in the country, Hurd had a record-setting 2012 season rushing for 3,357 yards and 43 touchdowns in the regular season.
In the playoffs, he rushed for1,384 yards and 17 touchdowns including a 394-yard game in the state championship game versus Columbia.
Hurd also told the Tennessean that he hopes his commitment to the university will attract others to come toTennessee.
"I hope that my decision will help others see that Tennessee is going to be a team they will want to play for."
