Man displaced after fireplace fire grows out of control

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A homeowner is displaced after a fire in his fireplace got out of control Tuesday morning.

The fire happened around 2 a.m. in the 2300 hundred block of Deerwood Road near Lebanon and McGavock Pikes in Donelson.

The fire spread quickly and caused substantial damage to the home.

The man inside was able to escape unharmed. He told authorities he was lighting a fire in his fireplace when it got away from him, and quickly grew out of control.

Officials told Nashville's News 2 the home is not livable.

The man plans on staying with friends.
