Just after 4:30 late Monday afternoon, a  jury was selected in the trial of a Hendersonville woman charged with murdering her newborn twins.

Lindsey Lowe, who allegedly hid her pregnancy and suffocated her newborn sons shortly after giving birth, was introduced to the 180 potential jurors inside a Gallatin courtroom around 8:30 a.m.

A jury made up of seven men and five women were selected.  Three alternatives were also picked to serve.

The case comes to trial almost 18 months to the day after Lowe's father made the gruesome discovery in Hendersonville when he found the babies deceased inside of a laundry hamper in September 2011

In a police affidavit, officers said Lowe confessed that she knowingly and intentionally killed each of her children and used her bare hands to stop their breathing until they were dead.

In the past several months, defense attorneys for Lowe have filed several motions, including one that questioned the legality of a confession to police after detectives came to her workplace to question her.

Nashville's News 2 was the only camera in the courtroom when Lowe took the stand during a hearing last month on a motion, later denied, that questioned if she was properly arrested.

Since her testimony, a judge has ruled in favor of the prosecution on several other motions, including that hundreds of text messages between Lowe and the babies' presumed father will be allowed as evidence.

Judge Dee David Gay said on Monday he expects up to five days of testimony once jury instructions and opening statements are finished.

Lowe is charged with two counts of premeditated murder and aggravated child abuse.

She faces life in prison.

The trial resumes tomorrow at 9 a.m.
