NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A fire broke out Thursday night at the Mercury Court Apartments on Murfreesboro Road.

Assistant Fire Chief Steve Holt said that when units arrived around 7 p.m. there was heavy smoke coming from the second floor apartment.

"Thank goodness to the first arriving units and their quick action, and we able to get in on the fire. It was in the kitchen area," Holt said.

Authorities found a victim inside the apartment and pulled her out.

She was rushed to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition.

Around 9:40 p.m., authorities said that victim was still in critical condition and they believe it was caused by an unattended cooking fire.
