Woman, 53, charged after stabbing roommate with scissors


A 53-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing her roommate several times at their shared apartment Wednesday night.

According to a police report, the incident involving Cassandra Payne and stabbing victim David Brown occurred at College Pointe Apartment located on Brown Drive.  

Brown, 51, reported to police Payne stabbed him multiple times with a knife and a pair of scissors.

Following the alleged incident, Payne fled the scene. She was taken into police custody around 1 a.m. Thursday.

She is charged with attempted second degree murder.

Brown, who suffered stab wounds to his chest, arms and head, said the incident occurred after a verbal argument turned physical.

He was transported to nearby Middle Tennessee Medical Center.

Payne's bond is set at $100,000.
