NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Senator Lamar Alexander's west Nashville home was broken into late Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at his home located on Brighton Road.
No one was home at the time of burglary, and once they returned they noticed the back door had been forced open.
Don Aaron, the Metro Nashville Police Department, said that he thinks it was a crime of opportunity rather than a specific threat to Senator Alexander.
"I think that there were some delivery boxes at the rear door. The burglar or burglars probably knocked on the front door and didn't get an answer, they came around back, they discovered those delivery boxes there, saw no one inside and then forced their way in," Aaron continued.
A jewelry box and silver plated tea set, among other items, were stolen.
