Titans not using franchise tag on any players

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Titans are not using their franchise tag on anyone, a move letting tight end Jared Cook and kicker Rob Bironas among their pending free agents hit the market.

The NFL deadline to designate players with the franchise tag was 4 p.m. EST Monday, and the Titans announced their decision on Twitter.

Cook had been the top candidate for the designation. But a dispute loomed over what position Cook actually pays over the difference between the $6.06 million this season he would have been due if the Titans used the franchise tag on him as a tight end compared to the $10.5 million a receiver designated a franchise player receives in 2013.

Bironas would have earned more than the $2.97 million kicker designation after earning $2.85 million in 2012.
