Lipscomb University welcomes the public to attend a free concert hosted by a legendary musician while supporting local veterans at the same time.
Charlie Daniels, Chris Young, The Grascals, Keni Thomas and Bleach will headline Charlie Daniels' Scholarship for Heroes event Tuesday.
The concert supports Lipscomb University's Yellow Ribbon Enhancement Program, which offers eligible post 9/11 GI Bill veterans and their family members an undergraduate degree tuition-free or a graduate degree either tuition-free or at a greatly reduced tuition rate.
Free tickets are available at all Middle Tennessee Daily's and Twice Daily's locations, Darrell Waltrip Automotive in Franklin and the Lipscomb University box office by calling 615-966-7075.
Since its inception in the fall of 2009, Lipscomb's Yellow Ribbon Program has grown from 20 original participants to more than 150 veterans enrolled this spring.
"Our veterans know that freedom isn't free, but we think their education should be," said Jim Humphrey, Assistant Dean of Campus Life and Director of Veterans' Services at Lipscomb.
Veteran and student Jacob Schultz added, "This war [has] been going on a long time. People are over it let's face it, but it's really nice to see that people do still care."
The concert starts at 7 p.m. at Lipscomb's Allen Arena located at 1 University Park Drive.
