Drivers on Waldron Road may find that they can reach their destination in a little less time thanks to an increase in the speed limit.
The speed limit was changed to 45 miles per hour between Industrial Boulevard and Murfreesboro Road last Friday.
Waldron Road has been under construction for years due to a project aimed at widening the road.
The city anticipates only two more months of work until it is complete.
Interim City Administrator Bruce Richardson told Nashville's News 2 that they hope they can finish the project as quickly as possible.
"We didn't expect the speed limits to change until the project was completed, but the state and/or contractor made the change last week without notifying us," Richardson said.
The La Vergne Police Department was not made notified of the speed limit change until Monday.
"Once a citation is issues, no one can legally interfere with the process," said Police Chief Mike Walker. "If citizens question any citations issues by the police, they are urged to appear during the court date stated on the ticket."
"According to a new state law, the municipal judge is the only one who can dismiss a ticket, even though it may have been issues in error," Walker continued.
He added that they received an e-mail Monday from LoJac, Inc., the contractor responsible for the construction work, noting that the speed limit was changed on Friday unbeknownst to them.
