Fort Campbell prepares for government sequester

Fort Campbell has begun preparations at the base for the possible government sequester.

Garrison Commander Colonel David Dellinger told Nashville's News 2 that they are doing everything they can to limit the impact on their teammates and family members.

"Maintenance on our facilities, in the facilities we work in, was cut from 62 million dollars to 28 million," he continued.

Temporary workers are the first to be affected, and contractors whose contracts run out will be decided on a case by case basis.

Dellinger also said that if furloughs happen, they will given a 30 day notice, however any furlough will not affect immediate missions.

"If a soldier needs to be trained, and that's critical training for that solider to deploy with his unit, he will get that," he told Nashville's News 2.

Dellinger added that it's the people who are not deploying this year, or will be doing so late into next year, that will be affected.
