Cookeville man arrested for stealing beer

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -

A 41-year-old Cookeville man was arrested over the weekend for stealing 10 cases of beer from an area Kroger store.

According to a report in the Herald Citizen, Jerry Shoemake was taken into police custody on Saturday afternoon following the incident.

Upon their arrival, police reported store employees were chasing after Shoemake as he attempted to leave the grocery store with a shopping cart filled with beer.

The newspaper reported Shoemake punched a store manager before fleeing the scene.

Shoemake is charged with theft. He was booked into the Putnam County jail on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 18.

Police have since recovered the beer.
