MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis police say an officer saved a baby's life while helping the mother deliver the infant in a car's back seat.
Police said Officer Anthony Morris was on patrol early Friday when he was flagged down by a woman who was standing next to a car.
When Morris approached her, he saw another woman who was in labor in the back seat. Morris called police communications staff and began taking instructions about helping deliver the baby.
Morris then noticed that the baby was not breathing and the umbilical cord was wrapped around the child. Morris unwrapped the cord and saved the child.
Both mother and child appeared to be fine and were transported to a hospital. The 46-year-old Morris is being praised by the police department for his efforts.
