Columbia girl goes on Bert's Big Adventure

A 5-year-old girl from Columbia has been chosen for an all-expenses paid trip to Disney World.

Adelyn Elkins was in a car accident last year that cost her use of her lower legs.

"She does remarkably well. She takes it in stride. Like I said, she has good days and bad days," Adelyn's father told Nashville's News 2.

She endured weeks of rehab in Atlanta, which is where her family first heard of Bert's Big Adventure, a non-profit organization aimed towards giving young children that are chronically ill or physically challenged the opportunity to have a magical weekend.

"We got a call from Bert himself saying we had been chosen for the trip. One of 13 families. We are the first family from Tennessee to be chosen," her father said.

Nashville's News 2 spoke with Bert about the program Thursday.

"We just shower these kids with great times. We give them all the gifts they want. They get VIP access into the parks. We stay at the nicest hotels. It's just a magical five days," he said.

Through Bert's program, the Elkins will embark on an all-expenses paid long weekend trip to Disney
World.
