1 person dead, 1 injured after car strikes tree

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

Officials in Rutherford County are investigating a fatal crash that happened Saturday evening.

The accident occurred around 9 p.m. in the 1600 block of Riverview Drive in Murfreesboro.

Police reported that a vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
