The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation added a Coffee County gang member to the state's Top 10 Most Wanted List on Thursday. Forty-two-year-old John Varner is wanted for attempted first degree murder for a shooting incident that occurred in Manchester last weekend, injuring a man. Authorities said Varner, who is a "Crip" gang member, got into an argument with a man in the 1200 block of Woodland Court last Saturday night when shots were fired. Varner has an extensive, violent criminal history which dates back to 1990 and includes charges for second degree murder, aggravated assault, domestic violence and unlawful possession of a weapon. Varner is a black male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is five feet, 11 inches tall and weighs 225 pounds. Varner, who also goes by the name Jake or Kitchen has multiple tattoos on his arms and legs. He also has a scar near his left eye. He may be traveling in a 2004 white Ford F-150 truck with Tennessee tag 706-YDC or a 1989 blue Chevy Caprice with Tennessee tag B69-52F. Authorities said Varner is considered armed and dangerous and should be approached with extreme caution. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.
