Man faces multiple charges after multi-county chase

VAN BUREN, Tenn. -

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department arrested a 35-year-old man on Wednesday night after he led Van Buren County authorities on a multi-county chase earlier in the day.

Officials told Nashville's News 2 a K9 officer stopped after seeing a man identified as Howard Brown pulled over on the side of the roadway around 1 p.m.

Brown initially told the officer he had pulled over on the roadway because he did not want to text and drive.

While the officer was running his driver's license, Brown sped away.

Authorities used spike strips as he drove down Highway 111 North. Brown avoided the strips before he took an on-ramp and took Highway 70 in DeKalb County.

Brown eventually crashed his vehicle, before fleeing on foot, after additional spike strips were used.

DeKalb County authorities took Brown into custody after a search was called off around 4 p.m.

He later admitted to police he was using meth during the chase and texting another felon.

He faces multiple charges in DeKalb, Van Buren and White counties including evading arrest and DUI, among others.
