CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -
A 19-year-old woman crashed her 2002 Chevrolet Impala late Monday morning in Clarksville when she looked down to operate a GPS.
According to police, Brooklyn Miller of New Johnsonville, was traveling south on the 41A Bypass around 10:45 a.m. when the accident occurred.
Miller's vehicle left the right side of the roadway and traveled approximately 200 feet before the car came to a rest near Queens Bluff Way.
Miller was not injured in the incident.
Nashville's News 2 looked at the state's texting while driving law that went into effect in July 2009 and discovered it covers more than just texting.
Law 55-8-199 states, "No person while driving a motor vehicle on any public road or highway shall use a hand-held mobile telephone or a hand-held personal digital assistant to transmit or read a written message."
Authorities said 380 citations have been issued for texting and driving in 2012.
Many officers that Nashville's News 2 spoke with said they are hesitant to ticket a motorist for texting and driving, but will cite them for careless driving.
In Miller's case, she was cited for failure to use reasonable care.
