A British man has been arrested in connection to alleged threats made this week against the Warren County school system.
According to British news agency Sky News Tyne and Wear, Reece Elliott, 24, of South Shields in England, was taken into custody on Friday on suspicion of making threats to kill hundreds of students.
"The message is believed to have been posted on Wednesday. There is nothing to suggest it posed any physical threat to any school either here or in America," a South Shields police spokesperson said.
On Thursday at Warren County High School, there were extra patrols on the streets, more officers in the halls and limited access at the doors.
The school reported more than half the student body did not attend classes after learning of the alleged threats. Those absences are expected to be excused.
It was not immediately known where potential prosecution would occur.
Elliott is being held at the South Shields Police Station.
