Authorities rescued two boys Wednesday night in Putnam County after they got lost in a heavily wooded area off Elmore Town Road in Baxter.
The juveniles, ages 12 and 15, were reported missing around 7 p.m. after their family became concerned when they did not return home after sunset.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol, Putnam County Sheriff's Office and Putnam County Fire Department assisted in the search effort.
Jesse Reeves, public information officer with the Putnam County Rescue Squad, said thermal imaging cameras were used and after a few hours, a heat signature was found next to a river in a heavily wooded area.
THP's air unit reported that it appeared to be two people huddled up trying to stay warm.
It took crews on the ground about an hour to reach the boys, who were cold but appeared to be safe with their dog by their side.
The boys were examined by paramedics and released to their family.
