WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. -

A Wilson County girl is using her birthday celebration as a way to help other children who are hospitalized at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

Six-year-old Hailey Willis loves to play outside like most children her age, but her father says his daughter is not like most.

"She is very mature for her age. She does a lot of things I think that most six or seven year olds don't," said Jarred Willis.

Jarred told Nashville's News 2 Hailey is always looking for ways she can help someone else.

"Hailey is a pretty special kid. She always wants to give to charity," he said.

Jarred said he and his wife Annie were not surprised when Hailey told them she wanted to do something special for her upcoming seventh birthday party.

"I always wanted to help people and I figured that since I like to help people so much I might as well have a charity birthday party," Hailey explained to Nashville's News 2.

Hailey turns seven on March 14. Instead of accepting birthday gifts at her party she came up with a better idea.

"I am going to have people come and donate money and toys to go to Vanderbilt Hospital to cheer up the kids there," said Hailey. "I've been telling my friends that for my birthday I want everybody to donate stuff."

"She has been pretty determined that this is what she wanted to do for her birthday this year," Jarred said.

The Willis family contacted Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt to ask for a list of needed items.

Hailey's plan for her birthday is pretty simple. Party goers bring items, such as stickers, construction paper, board games and crayons among other items to be donated to the hospital instead of bringing a gift.

"I like to give to charity so I figured if lots of other people could do it, maybe we could help a lot of people," Hailey said.

Hailey and her family plan to deliver all the donated items to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt on March 13.
