MIDLAND CITY, Ala. (AP) - The mother of a boy held hostage for a week in an underground bunker says she is grateful for all the people who helped bring her son home.

In a statement distributed by the FBI on Tuesday, the woman thanked local and federal law enforcement officials for their work. She also thanked her friends and neighbors in the community who provided food and other goods to those working to bring her son home.

The woman's name was not divulged in the statement, and she has asked for privacy and to remain anonymous.

The boy, who turns 6 on Wednesday, had been held hostage for a week before officers stormed the bunker where he was being held Monday afternoon.

The boy's abductor, 65-year-old Jimmy Lee Dykes, died during the raid.
