Good Morning America host Robin Roberts returned to the Gulf Coast late last week for the first time since her bone marrow transplant last fall.
According to ABC News, upon her arrival last Thursday, Roberts was greeted by students from her alma mater, Southeastern Louisiana University.
"This really means a lot when I heard about this, what you all were doing," Roberts said, adding, "My mama always said, 'Make your mess your message,' and you all have helped me to do that."
GMA co-anchors Sam Champion and Josh Elliott, who hosted "Good Morning America's Super Tailgate Party" Friday, accompanied Roberts on the trip.
Roberts spent Super Bowl Sunday with her family and friends.
The 52-year-old underwent a bone marrow transplant in late September after she revealed that she has MDS, a rare blood disorder.
Roberts' older sister, Sally-Ann, served as the donor.
Roberts is expected to return Good Morning America in the near future.
