Cold weather slows tornado cleanup in Hickman County

HICKMAN COUNTY, Tenn. -

Residents in Hickman County are continuing to cleanup days after an EF2 tornado ripped through the area early Wednesday morning.

The tornado downed trees, power lines and damaged homes.

As crews work to clean up the mess, residents said the cold temperatures and another threat of snow is slowing the process.

"[It's] especially [difficult] for kids because now there's going to be a little bit of snow and it's not going to be as fun to play in. We don't have a home to play in," homeowner Brandy Wesbrooks said.

Wesbrooks took Nashville's News 2 to her Coble home. She said she, her husband and three children all huddled together in a safe spot as the tornado ripped through.

"We all just sat down on the floor and held on to each other because at that point we didn't know if it was going to take the entire roof," she said. "You always have that fear of being sucked out if it does."

More than 15 homes were damaged during Wednesday's tornado.

Wesbrooks added that more than two dozen neighbors have offered her and her family a place to stay until they find a new home.
