NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A Vanderbilt University student had a once in a life time opportunity on Wednesday night.

Freshman Michael Pollack attended a private question and answer session with music legend Billy Joel at the Nashville university.

When called upon to ask a question, Pollack asked if he could play "New York State of Mind" on stage.

Pollack's performance got a huge reaction from the crowd, as well as from Billy Joel himself.

"It was such an incredible experience," he told Nashville's News 2. "I don't think I'll ever have anything like that again in my life. Not many people get to play with somebody they idolize, someone that inspires them and look up to."

Pollack is a songwriter and just signed a deal with BMI.
