NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Three people accused of shoplifting thousands of dollars in merchandise from several stores in the Mall at Green Hills have been charged with felony theft, among other charges.
Officers on Tuesday stopped a blue Chevrolet Malibu with a temp tag on Hillsboro Pike near I-440 after noticing the driver, Charmette Pitts, was texting while driving. The officer then matched the description of the car to one reported by mall security.
A consent search of the car revealed a variety of merchandise with price tags and security sensors still attached as well, as tools used to remove sensors off the stolen merchandise.
Pitts, 41, and passengers Audrieanna Johnson, 22, and Rico Brown, 18, admitted to stealing.
They face several charges including three counts each of felony theft, one count of misdemeanor theft and possession of theft tools.
In addition, Johnson and Brown are both fugitives from Paducah, Kentucky where they are wanted for shoplifting.
Pitts was also on probation for felony aggravated assault and theft convictions in Nashville from 2009.
Her record also holds felony theft convictions from Williamson and Sevier counties.
Pitts was booked into the Metro jail on a $55,000 bond.
Johnson is jailed in lieu of $305,000 bond.
Brown's bond was set at $285,000.
The investigation is continuing and police said additional charges are expected.
