Nestled in the resurging Riverside Village area of east Nashville is a facility that signals one of the directions health care is taking across the country.
Family Nurse Practitioner Amy Cole just opened Cole Family Practice located next to the relatively new Riverside Pharmacy located on McGavock Pike.
"We are filling a void bringing health care to neighborhoods like this one," Cole explained.
Cole said she opened her new facility after starting a successful one a few years back in the Old Hickory area of Nashville.
"You can come in here if you need a cut sutured, if you have heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, newborns and immunizations, you name it," said Cole who graduated from Vanderbilt's School of Nursing in 2007.
With a husband who grew up in the area, Cole said she saw the need for a similar family practice in the neighborhoods of east Nashville where few, if any similar health care facilities existed.
She also acknowledged the ever-increasing trend that doctors are specializing in areas such as pediatrics, or orthopedics rather than becoming family practitioners, as well as physicians in recent years are often concentrated in busy commercial buildings instead of being in neighborhood medical facilities
Sold are patients like Bess Armbruster who lives and works in the neighborhood.
"Here you can build a relationship, I love that, you can see the same people again and again,"she told News 2 after being checked for an ear condition by Cole. "There's a whole element of trust there, building relationships whether its your practitioner or at the grocery, it's a good element to build on."
