Metro police arrested a 44-year-old North Carolina man on Interstate 40 Tuesday afternoon after 29 pounds of marijuana was discovered in his rental SUV.

Chad Bugg was stopped around 3 p.m. near Bellevue for following a tractor-trailer too closely and for swerving.

He initially said he was traveling across the country doing roofing estimates.

During the traffic stop, the arresting officer saw two black duffle bags in the back floorboard.

After receiving permission to check the bags, authorities discovered 29 bags of vacuum sealed bags of marijuana weighing around one pound each.

Luggage and a used airline boarding pass were also discovered in the vehicle.
Bugg later admitted to flying from North Carolina to California with $38,000 in his carry on luggage to purchase marijuana.  He said he planned to resell the drug for a profit in North Carolina.

Bugg is charged with felony possession of marijuana for resale.

He remains jailed in lieu of $150,000 bond.
