WHITE HOUSE, Tenn. -
Police in White House are investigating a bizarre accident that left one man dead and a business destroyed.
According to police, 33-year-old Gary Legget of Cottontown was driving a Chevy pickup erratically on Highway 31W early Tuesday evening prior to the accident.
The truck left the road, drove between a guy wire and power pole, struck a metal sign, cut one tree in half and narrowly missed another before hitting the Stone Cottage Antique Shop.
The truck then hit and ruptured a natural gas line causing the building to catch fire.
Legget was killed at the scene.
"I'm just absolutely devastated," said store owner Richard Lane. "I put a lot of time and effort in this business, my wife did too. We had a very good business, the community embraced us."
Lane was in contact with his insurance company Wednesday, but told Nashville's News 2 the building is a total loss.
He said he doesn't know if he'll ever be able to re-open.
