Decatur County mom faces charges for abusing 10-month daughter
DECATUR COUNTY, Tenn. -
A Decatur County mother was arrested by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday for abusing her 10-month-old daughter.
Felecia Gray faces one count of aggravated child abuse and one count of child neglect following an incident that occurred at her East Main Street home on January 5.
Investigators said they believe the 27-year-old mother was home alone with her daughter and three-year-old son when Gray grabbed the baby around her waist and violently put her in a crib.
The following day a family member noticed the baby was lethargic and appeared to be having trouble breathing.
Gray took her daughter to Decatur County General Hospital three days after the incident at the insistence of family members.
Hospital staff contacted authorities after it was determined the child had been abused.
The child was transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where it was determined she suffered from severe compression injuries and spinal injuries, as well as several broken ribs and damage to her spine.
She was also malnourished. The young child remains hospitalized.
Gray was booked into the Decatur County jail on a $10,000 bond.
