Ryan Thompson, a 10-year veteran of the Culver City Police Department, was arrested early Monday in Nashville.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A 10-year veteran of the Culver City Police Department in California was arrested early Monday morning in Nashville.
Detective Ryan Thompson, 33, was charged with public intoxication after he was escorted out of Bailey's Irish Pub on Lower Broadway.
According to the arrest document, Thompson was "banging on the front window" after he was forced the leave.
The affidavit indicates he then "walked into the back door of the business and was wandering around the kitchen area."
A responding Metro officer found Thompson "unsteady on his feet" and using "extremely slurred speech."
Thompson was deemed a "danger to himself and others" and arrested.
While in the sally port of the Criminal Justice Center, Thompson became "increasingly belligerent" and made threats against the arresting officer's family on multiple occasions, according to the affidavit.
The arresting officer reported Thompson said, "I can't wait to get a hold of your son."
When the officer asked if he was threatening his family, Thompson replied, "I'm not threatening your family but I'm going to f*^# them up."
Thompson was booked into the Metro jail and has since been released. According to the criminal court clerk's Web site midday Monday, the charge has been dismissed.
Nashville's News 2 Investigates spoke with night court commissioner Steve Holzapfel who declined to speak on camera about the incident.
Off camera, Holzapfel did say Thompson was released into the custody of another Culver City police officer who was also in Nashville.
The California officers were in Music City to pick up a prisoner at the Metro jail.
In a statement sent to Nashville's News 2, Culver City Police Chief Donald Pederson said the department is "extremely disappointed" with Thompson's actions.
"We have already begun what will be a thorough and comprehensive personal investigation into the matter. At the conclusion of our investigation the appropriate action will be taken," the statement continued.
Culver City is located outside Los Angeles in southern California.
