I have heard an awful lot of people say that weather and emergency management folks made a big deal out of nothing concerning last Tuesday's Ice Storm Warning. It was all over the Nashville radio airwaves.
Excuse me for editorializing, but I need to remind some folks about "how quickly we forget".
Do you remember the ice storm in 1994?
If you are one of the tens of thousands of people who went without electricity for days or weeks back then, I know you do.
The fact is, we were awfully close to seeing a repeat performance last Tuesday night from western Davidson County extending to the west. Check out the pictures to the right.
I realize that most of the "complainers" were people living in Nashville and points eastward that did not have the ice. Those living in the areas west of town who saw trees bending and breaking, and ice cycles hanging from the power lines know how close they were to spending several days, possibly weeks, in the cold.
They were just one step away. Let's remember that.
