A freshman at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro was arrested Sunday and charged with DUI after he allegedly went for a joyride in a golf cart stolen from the university.
According to The Murfreesboro Post, Andrew Whisenant, 21, is accused of stealing the golf cart from the Murphy Center along with Steven Almanza, a senior at the school, following a night of drinking alcohol.
The pair was arrested after an officer witnessed them almost ram into a car on East Main Street near South Baird Lane.
Whisenant is charged with DUI and felony theft. Almanza is charged with public intoxication and felony theft.
In addition to the criminal charges, the university could take disciplinary action against the men for violating provisions of the student handbook and code of conduct, the paper reported.
