Vanderbilt to host memorial for Conn. shooting victims
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
On Monday, one month after the tragic elementary school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, Vanderbilt University will host a "Service of Silent Remembrance."
The memorial will honor the 26 victims, which included 20 children, who lost their lives at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14.
Vanderbilt's Benton Chapel will be open all day for students, staff and faculty members for prayer and meditation.
"We hope this service allows students and others in the community the opportunity to pause, reflect and give heartfelt expressions of sympathy and support to the people in Newtown," University Chaplain Rev. Mark Forrester said.
Members of the university community will be able to light a candle or write a note that will be sent to Newtown in memory of the shooting victims.
