Fairview teacher killed in I-40 crash

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A longtime teacher in Fairview was killed in a crash on Interstate 40 west of Bellevue Thursday evening.

The crash, involving Donna Bledsoe happened in the westbound lanes of I-40 near McCrory Lane around 6 p.m.

Authorities said Bledsoe ran off the left side of the road before she struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to over turn.

Bledsoe was ejected from the vehicle. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Bledsoe had been a physical education teacher at Fairview Middle School for many years. She also coached several sports including track and field, cross country and volleyball and was an assistant coach for the Fairview High School girls' basketball team.

Her husband, Ricky Bledsoe, is an educator at Fairview High School.

Extra counselors were on hand at Fairview Middle School Friday.

All athletic events at the school have been cancelled.
