A retired Clarksville police sergeant was taken into police custody for allegedly sexually assaulting a 34-year-old mentally disabled woman.
According to a report in the Leaf Chronicle, Charles "Chuck" Denton faces two counts of rape. Those charges stem from incidents that occurred on two occasions.
The newspaper reported Denton, 59, worked with the Clarksville Police Department for 32 years before he retired in June 2008.
Denton is also reportedly an associate pastor at a Clarksville church. The church's senior pastor said Denton has been "inactive from the church for the past six months."
Denton was booked into the Montgomery County jail. He was released on a $20,000 bond a short time later.
No additional information regarding the incidents was released.
