CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

A Clarksville homeless man was arrested on Tuesday night after it was discovered he had stolen a SUV from a dealership.

Hernandez Wilson was taken into police custody after officers discovered him driving a stolen Kia SUV in the parking lot of an area Walmart around 11:30 p.m.

Upon his arrest, police discovered Wilson, 52, was also in possession of three additional sets of keys that belonged to other vehicles at the car dealership.

Police learned during their investigation Wilson obtained the keys after he entered the car dealership after hours while a cleaning crew was working.

He said he then went out into the car lot to find which vehicle the keys belonged to.

Wilson told police he planned to drive the vehicle to Alabama to visit family.

He is charged with theft and remains jailed on a $50,000 bond.

Police said he has an extensive criminal history outside of Montgomery County.
