Argument over woman leads to shooting, arrest in north Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A fight between two men with the same romantic interest led to a shooting in north Nashville late Tuesday night.

According to police, Ervin Kent, 33, went to his ex-girlfriend's home on Monticello Street off Trinity Lane around 10:15 p.m. to confront a man who is now dating the woman.

Police said Kent and the woman have children together.

The victim opened to door and was met by Kent who stated, "This is my family. You are going to die tonight!"

The victim told police Kent then pulled out a gun and began shooting.

Officers arrived on the scene and found Kent and the victim still struggling over the gun.

Kent was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.  He was booked into the Metro jail on a $250,000 bond.

The victim was hit in his upper left thigh and right shoulder.

He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was treated and released.
