NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A woman was hit by a car on Interstate 40 near Central Pike in Hermitage after crashing her own car early Wednesday morning.
The accident happened just before 3:15 a.m. The woman told police she fell asleep behind the wheel of her Mitsubishi. She hit a retaining wall, causing her car to slide sideways into the center lane.
While the woman was checking on her car, a second vehicle struck the car, causing it to crash into her.
Metro police told Nashville's News 2 the woman suffered head injuries but is expected to survive.
The driver of the second car was not injured.
As of 4:15 a.m. only one lane of traffic was open. The roadway was cleared by 5:45 a.m.
