MT. JULIET, Tenn. -

A fire destroyed a house in the Chandler Pointe subdivision in Mt. Juliet Tuesday morning.

The blaze broke out before 9 a.m. on Cardiff Lane off Eagle Trace Drive and Old Lebanon Dirt Road.

The roof of the home caved in and the entire second floor is gutted.

"I still think I am in shock a little bit. You don't think this kind of stuff happens to you and it did," homeowner Tracy Combs told Nashville's News 2.

Combs is currently training to become a firefighter and was at the Mt. Juliet fire station when his address came across the radio alerting crews of the blaze.

"I rode here actually on the fire engine. It was pretty much a loss at that point. Flames were shooting about 100 feet high, it was out of control," he said.

Combs said his wife, daughter and friend were inside the home when the fire broke out.

"We all ran out to the front of the house and at first the porch was on fire and with in five to 10 minutes the entire house was just inflamed," family friend Ashlyn White said.

The family escaped the burning home without injury.

Two dogs and a cat got out okay but another cat is missing.

Combs is scheduled to take his EMT certification test on Wednesday.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
