James Quarles, 59
FRANKLIN, Tenn. -
Franklin police have determined that a power outage on Monday night was caused after a repeat DUI offender struck a telephone pole.
Police said James Quarles was traveling near Del Rio Pike and Carlisle Lane just after 8 p.m. when he crossed over to the wrong side of the roadway and struck a telephone pole, causing more than 3,000 customers to lose power.
Upon their arrival, officers determined Quarles, 59, was intoxicated.
Witnesses reported to police Quarles was also involved in a hit-and-run crash in the parking lot of a nearby Kroger.
Quarles was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. He has since been treated and released.
Quarles is charged with his second DUI offense and driving on a revoked license, among other charges.
He remains jailed in Williamson County on a $6,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court next Thursday.
