Soldiers mentor players in high school bowl game

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A group of U.S. Army Special Operations soldiers from Fort Campbell, Ky., were matched up with some of the nation's top high school football players as the students prepare for this weekend's U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio.

The soldiers from the 5th Special Forces Group and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment at the installation on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line shared their experiences with the athletes selected to play in Saturday's all-star game.

Staff Sgt. Aaron Eichhorn (EYE'-kohrn) said football players and soldiers have a lot of similarities, such as the hard work and training required. Master Sgt. Peter Sims said the athlete he is mentoring, quarterback Hayden Rettig, would be a good fit for the Special Forces because of his athletic skills and mental focus.
