A suicidal suspect is in custody in Rutherford County following a two-hour standoff with police Thursday morning.
According to Rutherford County sheriff's deputies, the standoff occurred at an apartment on High Meadow Drive off Gresham Lane after a man, believed to be armed with a semi-automatic pistol, threatened to take his own life and the life of anyone who approached.
The man also tried to remove a tattoo on his arm with the knife, according to WGNS Radio.
Officers made contact with the man and were eventually able to convince him to surrender. He has been identified as 42-year-old Christopher Coelho.
Officers found a 22-caliber semi-automatic rifle and two large survival knives in his apartment.
Authorities said Coelho was wanted in Cannon County for violating his probation.
He was extremely intoxicated at the time of his arrest and taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center for treatment.
When he is released he will be booked into Rutherford County jail where he will be held on the Cannon County charges.
He does not face any charges from Thursday's standoff, police said.
Coelho's criminal history in Rutherford County includes charges of aggravated assault in 2001 and charges of DUI, evading arrest and aggravated assault in 2006.
