A 10-year-old was forced into a closet during a home invasion Wednesday morning in north Nashville. It happened shortly after 10 a.m. at a home located at 5145 Ryan Allen Circle off Old Hickory Boulevard between Interstate 24 and Brick Church Pike.According to Metro police spokesperson Don Aaron, three masked men, one carrying a 9mm handgun with a 16 round magazine, entered the home when the child opened the door. Aaron said the suspects forced the 10-year-old into a closet before fleeing the home when the woman and other children began to scream.Neighbors saw the men run from the home and called police. Randy Wigfall told Nashville's News 2 that he saw three men wearing masks and bandanas hopped in a car parked outside and then drive off in reverse. "It was crazy, I'm still a little shaken about it, but I'm glad everything worked out the way it did," he said. Aaron said police arrested 20-year-old Lorenzo Vaughn and 18-year-old Shannon Birdsong, as well as two minors.
The suspects admitted to the crime and explained they intended to hit another house and chose the home with the children by mistake.A Metro police officer, acting on a description of the men and the getaway car, found them near Moorewood and Creekwood Road. Police recovered a 9mm handgun hidden under the seat of their car. The 10-year-old was uninjured and police say the only thing the gunmen took from the house was an iPod.
