A 33-year-old homeless woman was stabbed Wednesday morning in Bicentennial Mall near 7th Avenue North by a man who tried to rape her, Metro police said.
The victim reported that the suspect approached her around 8 a.m. and demanded sex at knifepoint.
When she refused, he allegedly stabbed her several times and fled on foot.
The victim was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was treated for wounds to her head and back.
Metro police said the suspect, who may frequent the Jefferson Street/Rosa Parks Boulevard area, is described as a black man who appears to be between the ages of 30 and 40.
He is approximately five feet, eight inches tall with a stocky build.
At the time of the attack, he wore dark pants and a white jacket with a logo on the front.
