NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Nashville Fire investigators are searching for what caused a blaze in north Nashville late Monday night.

The duplex on Fawnwood Place off Brick Church Pike caught fire around 11 p.m. and had neighbors scrambling.

The woman who lives in the house was home at the time and thought her four teenage children were trapped in the blaze.

She ran to her neighbors' homes, pounding on doors and yelling for help.

Lavette Hamlett was startled when the woman knocked on her.

"She got a burn on the back of her back but she was saying that her kids were in the house," recalled Hamlett, who called 911.

Firefighters arrived and searched the house for the missing teenagers.

After clearing the house it was learned the kids had left for a New Year's Eve church service a short time before the blaze began.

The homeowner suffered smoke inhalation and a burn on her back.

The family lost everything in the fire.

Hamlett told Nashville's News 2 the woman was talking to family members Monday night and believes she and her children have a place to stay.
