A Murfreesboro attorney is in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after accidentally shooting himself on Thursday.
According to police reports, Guy Dotson Jr. was cleaning his pistol while it was loaded. Dotson was shot in the stomach when the gun accidentally discharged.
Police arrived at Dotson's home on Monticello Court around 10 p.m. Thursday, finding Dotson lying on his bedroom floor. First responders administered first-aid until emergency medical crews arrived.
According to the DNJ, the bullet exited Dotson's back.
Dotson practices in criminal defense in both General Sessions Court and Circuit Court. He also works in family law and workers' compensation claims.
Dotson once served as a city attorney in Eagleville and is currently a municipal judge in La Vergne.
Dotson grew up in Murfreesboro where he got a undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee State University. Dotson received his law degree from the University of Memphis.
